چکیده
The Ionian sea is prone to tsunamis due its proximity the Calabrian subduction zone, which one of major tsunamigenic areas Mediterranean. tsunami disaster risk is, nowadays, significantly higher increased exposure buildings as a result economic and touristic growth Mediterranean coastal areas. This study focuses on Marzamemi, small village in western coast Sicily, since morphology human presence amplify need assess buildings’ vulnerability. main objective this research quantify building vulnerability hazards using physical realistic scenario. For purpose, relative index Marzamemi was calculated by means an improved Papathoma Tsunami Vulnerability Assessment (PTVA) model. presented approach has three improvements: (a) probabilistic scenario used; (b) signal water surface linked with specific focal mechanism adopted; (c) wave propagated from offshore nearshore nonlinear numerical good results proposed methodology make it very useful for planning conducted decision makers stakeholders.

Paleo-tsunami history along the northern Japan Trench: evidence from Noda Village, northern Sanriku coast, Japan
Throughout history, large tsunamis have frequently affected the Sanriku area of the Pacific coast of the Tohoku region, Japan, which faces the Japan Trench. Although a few studies have examined paleo-tsunami deposits along the Sanriku coast, additional studies of paleo-earthquakes and tsunamis are needed to improve our knowledge of the timing, recurrence interval, and size of historical and pre...
متن کاملMeasuring Tsunami Planning Capacity on U.S. Pacific Coast
The U.S. Pacific coastal states are at risk from both locally and distantly generated tsunamis. This vulnerability can be reduced by effective hazard management plans, but no studies have been conducted to determine how local jurisdictions have incorporated tsunami hazard management into their planning frameworks. This paper analyzes the quality of hazard management plans from 43 coastal counti...
متن کاملNear-coast tsunami waveguiding: phenomenon and simulations
In this paper we show that shallow, elongated parts in a sloping bottom toward the coast will act as a waveguide and lead to large enhanced wave amplification for tsunami waves. Since this is even the case for narrow shallow regions, near-coast tsunami waveguiding may contribute to an explanation that tsunami heights and coastal effects as observed in reality show such high variability along th...
متن کاملNear coast tsunami waveguiding: simulations for various wave models
Shallow parts in a sloping bottom toward the coast can be expected to act as a waveguide, in partial analogy with optical waveguiding. We will present numerical simulations that convincingly show that large enhanced wave amplification happens for tsunami waves in certain geometries and bathymetries. Since this is even the case for shallow regions that have cross sections of the order of badly r...

In the Tsunami of Dec. 26, 2004, although there was a large distance between the earthquake center of Indian Ocean and coastal cities of Iran, the Tsunami waves brought some damages in Chabahar coast. This means that if the earthquake center was closer to Iran, Iran’s coastal regions would have confronted serious danger... In the present study, we used ComMIT software (Community Model Int...
